BRIEF HISTORY OF THE PROPERTY

We believe that the front part of the house which faces onto North Street could date back as far as the mid 17th Century, a time when Lostwithiel was being rebuilt following the ravages of the English Civil War. The rear part of the property was converted at a later date (Circa late 19th Century) from stabling and the adjoining passageway still has the original flag stones, showing signs of wear from cart wheels. The property was also an ale house for a period of time known as the 'Maltsters Arms', which is confirmed in the old hand written deeds.

The use of this property has changed several times over the decades, once being a dairy and a shop before it's conversion to a private dwelling around the 1960s/70s. The large walk-in attic reveals original features including the old roof beams held together by wooden pegs and there is also a section of 'wattle and daub' wall which is a further indication of the property's age.
